Thomas might just be one of the happiest babies I’ve met. He was excited for hugs and loved being thrown up in the air (because who doesn’t?!), and has the cutest little smile! Plus, I got to photograph the family dog too since our session was at Thomas’s house. I love when family pets wiggle their way into the photos–it’s so cute to see kid+pet friendships.

I’ve been looking through this year’s images for the past few days but didn’t quite get to finish looking through them all. So, I’m sure I’m missing a few, but here are a bunch of my favorite shots from 2012. It’s been a really awesome year. My proofing site swears I delivered 24,501 images this year (which is crazy hard to believe). There has been so much driving, so much coffee, so little sleep, but overall way too much fun.
2013 should be interesting. I’ll be twenty-three. I’ll be graduating from the Corcoran with a BFA in graphic design in May. It’ll be the third year of Maggie Winters Photography. All of these adult things. I’ll be looking forward to hanging out and doing all kinds of fun-as-hell stuff even more this year, so I can forget that I’m supposed to be a grown up!
To everyone I’ve met this year in this crazy photographic endeavor: thank you for being awesome. Happy new year.
Here’s to an evenmoreawesome 2013!
(post by Maggie)
Well, I’ve been out shooting so much lately that I’ve been slackin on the blogging! I’ll be posting tons of catch-up posts over the holiday season–soo many fun sessions lately!
Today I got to see Cora, a toddler I first met when she was the cutest little baby–just a few months old–and haven’t seen in over a year. She is running, talking, and of course she loved to push the ‘clicky button’ on my camera (it’s a big favorite with the kiddos). She snapped a really cool shot of Dad (I’ll label it later in the post). It was pretty chilly out, but Cora and her parents are styled beautifully and they look awesome in winter layers!
Not only is Fall an awesome season for photography, but those orange leaves mean I get to hang out with the Halligan family! Three Octobers in a row of beautiful fall family photos is an all time record for me (the Halligans are the first family I ever photographed, in the Fall of 2010!).
Some kids just have the biggest cheeks & smiles. Easton is definitely one of them! He is way too cute, and so much fun. I love watching babies grow into toddlers; they suddenly become aware of their surroundings and love discovering new things! His parents got him matching sneakers, but of course baby feet grow so quickly–socks worked out great.
I absolutely love black and white photography. Sometimes I really miss my Pentax K1000 and the darkroom–some shots just feel like they want to be black and white film. The shots below, for example–those trees look gorgeous in black and white, and the emotions of the image really come to the surface. I make it work with digital! One day I’ll have my darkroom back though
On to the photos!
Andrew is an old family friend, one of the reasons that Mom had the basement soundproofed when I was a kid (they played a lot of jazz). I haven’t seen any of those guys in a while, so it was so great to catch up with Andrew, his wife Morgan, and their kids! It always baffles me how quickly they grow up–the last time I saw little Jonathan I think he was about the age his sister is now! I love photographing families and getting to watch them grow and change over the years. I can’t imagine how much these kids will have grown the next time I see them!
I met up with Finn and his mom at Kalorama park for a morning walk (and some really cute baby faces!). I first met Finn and his family last year when he was just the tiniest little thing and now he’s walking, running, and showing off like a champ! It’s so crazy how fast kids grow, and I love seeing their new milestones and tricks in our images. I can only imagine what big-kid stuff Finn will be doing next time I see him!
Let’s start with the tiny little guy I met last year…
And now how much he’s grown!
I met little Cassie a couple weeks ago when she was just a month old. She has to be one of the most expressive babies I’ve ever met–she already has such a fun personality, I can only imagine what she’ll be like in a few years! Oh yeah, and she wore a monster onesie. So she wins best-dressed baby in my book!
Check out her way-too-adorable faces. Congratulations Mom & Dad–she’s definitely a keeper.
One of my favorite parts of photographing is getting to see babies grow up through my lens. It’s so mind-boggling to see a tiny little girl who has just learned to sit up, and then a few months later she has teeth and crawls! You might remember baby Harper from her summer session, with the cutest cheeks and biggest smile–and her birthday session was even more fun (if that’s possible!).
Check her out at her six-month session (left) and first birthday session (right).
We were all a bit worried about the temperature for this session, but the sun was warm and lots of hugs and chasing made for great pictures and lots of warmth!
